Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about HVAC service, warranties, TSSA certification, and how Johnston Mechanical works.
Should I get a furnace or a heat pump?
It depends on your home, your existing equipment, and your energy costs. A gas furnace is the most cost-effective choice for most Ontario homes today. A cold-climate heat pump can reduce operating costs — especially if you are replacing an electric baseboard system — but the upfront cost is higher. Many homeowners choose a dual-fuel system: a heat pump for mild weather and a gas furnace as backup for the coldest days. Brandon will walk you through the options during a site visit.
What warranty does Johnston Mechanical offer?
Johnston Mechanical provides a 5-year labour warranty on all installations as standard. A 10-year labour warranty upgrade is available. Equipment manufacturer warranties are separate and vary by brand — typically 5 to 10 years on parts. Brandon will explain the full warranty coverage for your specific equipment at installation.
Is Brandon Johnston TSSA certified?
Yes. Brandon Johnston holds TSSA certification FS-R-52252. TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) is the Ontario regulatory body for gas technicians. All gas appliance installations and gas line work performed by Johnston Mechanical is done by a licensed, certified technician.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?
Yes. Johnston Mechanical provides 24/7 emergency HVAC service for genuine emergencies — no heat in winter, gas smells, carbon monoxide alarms, and similar situations. Call (613) 827-8973 at any hour.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Johnston Mechanical offers financing options including purchase financing, lease-to-own, and rental programs. Visit the Financing page for details, or ask Brandon during your site visit.
What areas do you serve?
Johnston Mechanical primarily serves Trenton, Quinte West, Belleville, Brighton, Frankford, Stirling, and Campbellford. Extended service is available to Tweed, Picton, Napanee, and surrounding Hastings County and Prince Edward County communities depending on the project. Call to confirm availability for your address.
How does quoting work?
Brandon visits your home, assesses your existing equipment and the scope of work, and provides a written quote. No pricing is given over the phone — accurate quotes require a site visit. There is no charge for the site visit.
How often should I have my HVAC system maintained?
Furnaces and boilers should be serviced annually, ideally in the fall before the heating season. Central AC and heat pumps benefit from a spring tune-up before the cooling season. Heat pump systems should be serviced in both spring and fall.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Brandon Johnston does every job himself. There are no subcontractors, no handoffs, and no surprises. When you hire Johnston Mechanical, Brandon is the technician who shows up.
What brands do you install?
Johnston Mechanical installs RUUD and Mainline furnaces and AC systems, Mainline, GREE, and TOSOT heat pumps, Navien boilers and tankless water heaters, Panasonic HRVs and ERVs, and GeneralAire whole-home humidifiers. Brandon will recommend the right equipment for your home and budget during the site visit.
